Nova Scotia Blue a la Wooly Mason Jar

This beautiful blue can be created by using your Wooly Mason Jar primaries W9 Blue and W5 Yellow and following these simple steps.

Soak 4 swatches or 40 g total combination of wool fiber.

I used the following for textures.

Nova Scotia Blue  part 1

Using a Microwave safe dish about the size shown (Walmart) above

add 1 tsp W9 to 2 cups of hot water (just enough to cover)

Scrunch wet wool and add yarn to top,  put the yarn in a mess bag so not to tangle. Pour dye solution over top and microwave 5 minutes.

Add 1/4 tsp citric acid let sit for 5 minutes. It should clear if not stir a bit, i push down and twist with the bottom  a the measuring cup to help.

Nova Scotia Blue  part 2

Drain and scrunch again

add  1tsp W5 yellow + 1/4 tsp citric acid to 1/2 Cup boiling water

and spot it over wool. Leaving some blue sticking up not spotted will give a nice spotting.

Microwave 5 min again. Rest for 5 minutes. Do not drain. The water should clear.

Then to finish

Add 1 tsp of W9 to 2 Cups boiling water pour over top and microwave 2 minutes. It is ready to rinse well when water is clear.
